Green Key award

We have been granted the Green Key award for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.

Energy Conservation

Ollero Eco Lodge uses an electricity supplier that produces the electricity from entirely renewable energy sources, such as wind and bioenergy, and has a Guarantee of Origin.

The igloo is completely energy efficient with solar and biofuel used for led lights, Wi-Fi and mobile communication electricity. The low consuming renewable biodiesel is keeping the igloo warm and cozy. It has top quality low-energy windows and superior insulation.

We reduce our energy consumption by using energy-saving lights.

Recycling

At Ollero Eco Lodge paper and cardboard, glass, metal, plastic, mixed waste and bio waste are sorted separately and recycled. Waste collectors in the main lodge and in the yard allow sorting waste to proper circulation.

There are three composting toilets, one in the igloo, another in the sleeping cabin and one in the yard.

We source towels and bedlinen from a local laundry company that washes textiles eco-efficiently.

Ecological & Fair-trade Products

In Ollero Eco Lodge, we choose eco-friendly products. All detergents used for cleaning and the guests´ shampoos and shower gels are highly eco-friendly.

In the smoke sauna, towels, bench linen and slippers are made in Finland using natural raw materials.

In Ollero Eco Lodge you can use ecological cups, bowls and cutlery.

Eco-friendly Interiors

For the history of Ollero, we chose to reuse most of the furnishing and interior materials, which have been there since the 70´s.

The curtains are made of linen, the origin of which is in our great-grandparents organic farm.

Sheep hides come from a local organic sheep farm and they are 100% allergen-free.

Green Building

Ollero Eco Lodge chose the igloo for its low impact on nature; it can be moved to new destinations without leaving traces.

All of the other buildings in Ollero Eco Lodge are built of log. Timber is a renewable and organic building material and can often be reused in new buildings, or at the end of its lifespan, burned for energy.

Did you know that increasing the use of wood is an effective way to hold back the growth of greenhouse emissions?

Organic & Local Food

When cooking with us we provide only local and organic food ingredients.

Tips and guidelines for our guests for respecting and protecting nature

One of the great concepts in Finland is called “Everyman’s Rights”. Simply put: enjoy the great outdoors but be responsible and respect nature as well as other people and their property. Our forests and rivers should remain free of plastics, so please do not leave any rubbish behind.

Campfires are only permitted at official campfire sites. Do not light a fire if there is a forest or grass fire warning in force. Feel free to make a campfire in our Lappish tepee. Firewood is underneath the seat. Make sure the fire is out and the tepee left as it was before leaving.

Animals are part of the magic of Lapland's nature. You can respect our animals by not disturbing or damaging birds’ nests or young birds, and by not approaching the easily spooked reindeer. Always maintain an adequate distance to the animals you are observing or photographing.

Make sure that you stay on marked trails and use the existing rest areas. Always choose the correct trail for your activity: there are separate tracks for snowmobiles, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking and cycling.

There's no such thing as bad weather as long as you dress accordingly. Thus, regardless of the season or weather, please remember to wear gear suitable for the prevalent conditions.

"Take only photos, leave only footprints."

Let´s be green together by reducing and recycling waste, turning the lights off when exiting the room and trying to save water while showering.

Thank you!
